Notes: Clever Bins in Croydon - Armed with a camera and a Clever Bin, we went into the streets of Croydons North End to capture peoples reactions.
Out of 100 people stopped at random, 98 said they would like to see Clever Bins on the street. We knew Clever Bins would be popular but we did not expect to see such a welcoming. Age ranges stopped varied from 16 – 68. It seems its popularity was based on some of the key features being the bin itself is made from 100% recycled plastics, The solar power was a clear winner and the fact that they are given out for free to councils was quit a strong point.
When it came to the question of advertising, most people made it clear that the advertising on Clever Bins was so neat and worked well with the general bin design. It was often stated that this blending of the design and bin made it still all look very attractive and did not seem like in you face Advertising. Of 10 local businesses that advertise in Croydon, 10 said they would like to advertise on Clever Bins

Writer Bill Bryson speaks of his outrage at how people in the UK treat their surroundings like a rubbish tip, and castigates our apparent inability to walk or drive anywhere without leaving a trail of litter. Although Britain has got some of the toughest laws on litter in Europe, Bill questions why they don't seem to be enforced.
Our Reaction
This documentary highlights some of the problems we face as a nation, Clever Bins adresses one of the key points made in this documentary. To quote Bill Bryson,
"People are very angry about litter and want something done about it, For one thing, they want more bins."
We believe our solution will make a signficant increase to targeted areas by both meeting the need of new litter bins, as well as a gradual increase in bin usage.

Vandalism and the increase in maintenance costs of public property is unfortunately an ever-present reality for local authorities across the UK. Our bins are designed to the highest standards using the latest technology to be durable and withstand significant damage. The panels and components of our bins are encased in solid housing, with the display sides, protected by a 12mm thick riot sheild screen. The bins design makes it simple and inexpensive to replace damaged parts and remove graffiti.
