The Clever Factor
The Clever Bin is unique in design, highly presentable and promotes waste management amongst the general public. However what sets us apart from others is that we give out our Clever Bins to local authorities at no cost. It does not stop there though. Our bins provide several important features;
Durability Against Vandalism
Vandalism and the increase in maintenance costs of public property is unfortunately an ever-present reality for local authorities across the UK. Our bins are designed to the highest standards using the latest technology to be durable and withstand significant damage. The panels and components of our bins are encased in solid housing, with the display sides, protected by a 12mm thick Perspex screen. The bins design makes it simple and inexpensive to replace damaged parts and remove graffiti.
Clever Bins vs Weather
One of our biggest challenges was powering the bins in adverse weather conditions. Our solution has been to procure and enhance the efficiency of day light solar panels, coupling this with an energy storage system. This means that it is possible to have as little as 5 hours of no sun but daylight and still successfully power a Clever Bin through hours of the night.
Tracking and Security
We use live GPS tracking on all our Clever Bins. This sophisticated system allows us to track our bins in any location in the UK at any given time. This also applies to bins in the event of vandalism where there is damage to the cables and circuitry of the bin.
In mid 2007 Patents were filled and Clever Bins was registered as a UK limited company. Advertising Director, William Sachiti and a Chartered Waste Manager, had seen a significant gap in their respective markets. Their solution was a sponsored solar powered street litter bin which would be given at no cost to local authorities.
This sponsored litter bin dubbed the Clever Bin, was an affordable outdoor advertising medium which would find its way into difficult to reach places of high pedestrian footfall.
After extensive research and development. Clever Bins had a successful trial with the London borough of Croydon. The scheme was to be launched following funding. In May 2009, Clever Bins Director William found his way into the BBCs investment TV show Dragons Den. William did not get any offers while on the show however shortly after the Den, Clever Bins was approached with numerous private investment offers.
As well as the required investment, Clever Bins has secured contracts with three prestigious London local authorities & one of Europe’s largest advertising agencies and is currently producing bins to be placed on the street throughout this year.
Clever Bins has also been licensed in countries accross Europe and Asia and has created what is becoming a new standard in outdoor advertising; Advertising on street litter bins.
Requesting a Free Clever Bin Recycling or Litter Bin.
In some local boroughs, members of the public may feel that certain locations that do not have litter or recycling waste bins, may need one. Unfortunately this may not always happen as quickly as you may want it to because or many technicalities. The request a bin option we have, enables you to send us a request to have a Clever Bin given for free to any local authority for a specific location. It is not always possible to meet all requests as there are collection routes and risk assessment to consider. The more requests we get for a specific location, The easier it is to pass the collated data to the council. When this happes, the result will also be published on this website.
What affects bin locations.
There are a number of things to consider when locating a rubbish or recycling bin. Train stations have a high risk of potential explosive material being placed in the bins. Places where the bins a prone to constant vandalism and cause more mess than if there was no bin there. Some areas have impossible collection routes making it unsafe for litter or recycling bins to be placed in such areas.
To request a bin from us, simply fill in the form on the contact us page of this website.
The initial aim of the project is to generate local and, in the long term, national environmental benefits such as:
- the reduction of litter in public places
- increasing levels of recycling by the public
- reducing the reliance on non-renewable resources, such as petroleum based plastics by reuse/recycling of packaging materials
- reducing waste going to landfills
